Opened to the public in 2015, Coney Island is one of my favourite ways to unwind on a weekend. While the island can be easily reached via Punggol Central in the North-East of Singapore — despite its name, you won’t have to take a single ferry — Coney Island feels like a world away from the busy mainland.
You’ll get great exercise while taking in great views as you cycle around the island. Everything is kept untouched, rustic, and ecologically sustainable — timber from fallen trees are used for all the signage!
Coney Island’s wide variety of habitats include grasslands, mangroves, casuarina woodlands, and even a secret beach. This makes the island a haven for nature and wildlife enthusiasts, who often come to spot rare birds, snakes, and the cheeky native macaques.
