What better way to explore a city than with a local taking you through Singapore’s most culturally-rich districts?

Despite having spent my whole life in Singapore, there was still so much to learn about the nooks and crannies of our city, which has transformed so much in such a short time. The best part was hearing all the little-known grandmother stories — anecdotes which have been passed down generations of families by word-of-mouth.

Some of the most interesting tours are operated by The Original Singapore Walks, which take participants off the beaten path to areas that aren’t part of the usual sightseeing circuit. These range from wet markets to shops selling ancestral worship supplies, and even graveyards!

Geylang Adventures also leads tours through the colourful Geylang neighbourhood with unique places of worship, lively bars and historic architecture. Psst, you even get to have a glimpse into its notorious seedy back alleys.

While the bustling districts of Little India, Kampong Glam, and Chinatown are already interesting on their own, the tours bring the rich history and time-honoured traditions of these local enclaves to life.
